David Tennant Pays Tribute To Edith MacArthur

David Tennant has paid tribute to the late Scottish actress Edith MacArthur in The Scotsman.

Edith, who sadly passed away on 25th April 2018, aged 92, was one of Scotland's finest leading ladies who appeared on stage and screen in an array of projects including Sunset Song, Take The High Road and Hamish MacBeth.

Edith was one of the first to spot David's natural talent for acting when she saw him in a play, aged just 10, and told his parents that she was sure he would go on to be a success.
The pair went on to appear together in Long Day’s Journey Into Night, and in Noel Coward’s Hay Fever at the Lyceum, in 1987. And now David has spoken of his pride at working with her and his pleasure of knowing her:

“To a 10-year-old,” he said, “she was this tall, magnificent, almost supernatural figure who seemed to twinkle with glamour. She predicted we would share a stage together one day, and although I am sure she was just being indulgent, her prediction came true. In Hay Fever at the Lyceum she was hilarious and giddy and charming. And then later, in A Long Day’s Journey Into Night, she was utterly extraordinary. Fragile, bitter, girlish and broken, she was incredible. Edith had a magic about her. Offstage she sparkled and charmed, but onstage she glistened and glowed; and I will forever remember her as someone I looked up to, and still aspire to be like.”
