USA: Gnosis Retreat Center Presents Los Angeles Premiere Of Mad To Be Normal

Gnosis Retreat Center is hosting a Los Angeles premiere screening of Mad to be Normal next month which will benefit the charity and enable them to provide sanctuary for people experiencing extreme mental states. The Center previously hosted a similar even in San Francisco.

Mad To Be Normal tells the story of R.D. Laing, the controversial hero of the 1960's counter culture movement and his radical experiment in the healing power of community at Kingsley Hall. Laing was a figure that captured imaginations the world over with his brilliant writing, deep compassion, and unconventional treatment methods. In the late 1960s, Laing opened Kingsley Hall in East London as a unique treatment facility where those experiencing mental illness could live as equals with medical staff and work through their psychosis in a medication-free environment. Written and directed by Robert Mullan, Mad To Be Normal stars David Tennant in an award-winning performance as Laing, with outstanding performances from a supporting cast that includes Elisabeth Moss, Michael Gambon and Gabriel Byrne.

The screening takes place on Saturday 26th May from 6pm at Moss Theater at 3131 Olympic Boulevard, Santa Monica. A cocktail reception will precede the film between 5-6pm and afterwards there will be a panel discussion featuring Michael Guy Thompson, Nita Gage, and Fritjof Capra, all friends and colleagues of Laing.
