PHOTOS: David Tennant Presents London Film Festival Best Documentary Award



One of the closing highlights of the 60th BFI London Film Festival took place last night as this year's Festival Awards winners were announced at an exclusive gala dinner. David Tennant attended the event at Banqueting House in London to present the Grierson Award for Best Documentary.

The winner was Starless Dreams, directed by Iranian filmmaker Mehrdad Oskouei. This film is a moving account, shot over seven years, following the young women residing in an all-female detention centre for juvenile delinquents in Tehran. The award was accepted by the project's producer Nasrine Medard de Chardon. 

The other winners last night were:
  • Official Competition Winner – Best Film: Certain Women, directed by Kelly Reichardt
  • First Feature Competition Winner – the Sutherland Award: Julia Ducournau for Raw
  • Short Film Competition Winner – Best Short Film Award: 9 Days – From My Window in Aleppo, directed by Issa Touma, Thomas Vroege and Floor van de Muelen
  • This year’s BFI Fellowship was presented to the Turner-prize-winning video artist, and Oscar-winning filmmaker Steve McQueen.
Other attendees of the event included Lily James, Kerry Fox, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Matthew Macfadyen and Michael Fassbender, and the ceremony was hosted by Michael Sheen.
