NEW PHOTO: Programme Listing For How To Get Ahead: In Medieval Court

The Radio Times have published a programme listing for How To Get Ahead: In Medieval Court. The first of three programmes hosted by Newsnight Arts Correspondent Stephen Smith examining what was necessary to survive and prosper in some of the most artistic, decadent and dangerous royal courts in history, the episode explores the court of King Richard II. David Tennant who recently portrayed the monarch on stage for the Royal Shakespeare Company appears as a contributor. TV chef and personality Clarissa Dickson-Wright also features.

How To Get Ahead: At Medieval Court
In the first episode of a new series on life in the past, he’s concentrating on the court of that wayward 14th-century monarch Richard II. This involves wearing silly pointy shoes, cooking rabbit with Clarissa Dickson Wright and trying his hand at being a Cheshire Bowman.
In between these jolly interludes are some more serious points about Richard’s changing view of kingship – David Tennant, who’s played the king on stage, offers some intriguing insights – and his patronage of art and culture. It’s broken up into “rules”, shuffled randomly like a pack of cards; a bit hit and miss, but with some jewels amid the chaff.

You can watch How To Get Ahead: At Medieval Court on BBC Four at 9pm GMT on Wednesday 12th March. There is also an early hours repeat at 2.45am on Thursday morning. The programme will also be available to view again via BBC iPlayer after broadcast.
