AUSTRALIA: Penguins - Spy In The Huddle Is A Pick Of The Day For The Sydney Morning Herald

The Sydney Morning Herald have chosen the outstanding nature documentary Penguins: Spy In The Huddle as their free-to-air pick of the day for Saturday. Produced by John Downer Productions and narrated by David Tennant, the documentary includes exclusive and up-close footage of three species of penguin captured over the course of just under a year. The filmmakers used 50 different spycams to observe the birds as they struggle, not only to survive, but to raise young in some of the most extreme conditions on earth.

The Sydney Morning Herald say:

Penguins: Spy in the Huddle
He may take star billing, but former Doctor Who David Tennant has merely lent his charming Scottish burr to this wildlife documentary featuring incredible footage captured by ingenious robotic cameras. Remarkably lifelike replicas of the emperor, rockhopper and desert-dwelling Humboldt penguins roam among the colonies, filming close-ups that have never been seen before. The sheer beauty of this strangely human birdlife is indulged with spectacular scenery and Tennant's enlightening and thoughtfully paced script. No attempt is made in the documentary to anthropomorphise the subjects, and yet it is impossible not to be moved by the sight of a lone penguin trudging towards an icy horizon in search of his flock.

Watch Penguins: Spy In The Huddle on Channel Ten on Saturday 28th September at 6.30pm

A DVD of the series will be released on Wednesday 16th October. Pre-order your copy from the ABC Shop
